WoW Forever Addon Manager

Quick Answer

Use a desktop manager for addon downloads and updates. ForeverAddonManager instead manages enabled-addon selections across characters; it does not copy layouts, keybindings or another addon’s settings.

A WoW Forever addon manager can mean two different tools. A desktop app such as CurseForge downloads and updates addon files. The in-game project ForeverAddonManager manages which installed addons are enabled for each character. It does not download addons or synchronize their layouts and internal settings.

Choose the desktop route when your problem is file installation or updates. Choose an enabled-addon profile tool when your characters need different addon selections. You may use both because they operate at different stages.

Match the tool to the job

Your goalTool typeImportant limit
Download and update supported releasesDesktop addon appMust select the correct Forever installation and file flavor
Use different enabled-addon sets for altsForeverAddonManagerChanges addon selections, not each addon's internal configuration
Copy a UI layout or custom settingsThe relevant addon's own profile toolsAn enabled-addon profile is not a layout export

This distinction prevents an easy naming mistake. Forever Cooldown Manager is a spell-display project whose description refers to beta behavior. It is not an alternative to a desktop downloader or an enabled-addon profile manager.

Desktop managers for downloads and updates

CurseForge for the selected Forever installation

CurseForge is a desktop route for finding, installing and updating supported addons. Select the Forever game instance before installing anything. If the app does not list it, identify the installation through Battle.net and inspect the app's scan or manual-add options.

The app destination and the file flavor both matter. A project can support multiple WoW branches, and a current upload may target a different branch. Confirm the selected release includes Forever rather than assuming the newest file is correct.

Use the app consistently for the installation it is managing. If you copied addons manually and they are not recognized, scan the correct installation before downloading another copy into a different one.

WowUp with a current support check

WowUp is a separate open-source desktop manager. Its published features include scanning existing addon folders, maintaining several WoW installations and searching different providers depending on the edition. It is available for Windows, macOS and Linux.

Those general features do not establish how your installed WowUp version identifies the live Forever client. Older instructions describe beta-channel detection during the Forever beta. Do not treat that historical workaround as a confirmed requirement or fix for the current live release.

If you prefer WowUp, first check that its current version recognizes the actual installation you launch. Also check that your preferred addon source is available in that edition. A manager cannot install a provider's project through an integration it does not offer.

ForeverAddonManager for in-game addon selections

ForeverAddonManager, created by Loyftwa, is designed for WoW Forever 1.60.1. It offers account-wide profiles containing enabled and disabled addon selections, character assignments and optional automatic synchronization at login.

Its required LibStub, CallbackHandler, LibDataBroker and LibDBIcon components are included according to the author. There is no separate library-installation step for those bundled components.

Create your first selection profile

  1. Open the addon with /fam or /foreveraddons.
  2. Enter a recognizable name for the new profile.
  3. Choose the installed addons you want enabled and disabled.
  4. Click Save Profile.
  5. On another character, select that profile from the dropdown.
  6. Click Apply Profile.
  7. Use /reload when necessary to load the updated selection.

Name profiles for the selection they represent, such as your group or gathering setup. The name is only a label; the manager does not automatically understand which addons your class or role needs.

Assign profiles to characters

Use the Characters tab to assign a saved profile. Enable automatic synchronization in Settings if you want the assigned selection applied at login.

The author also documents exclusions that protect selected addons from profile synchronization. Use exclusions deliberately for an addon whose enabled state you want to manage separately. Otherwise, a mismatch between an assigned profile and a manual choice may simply be the synchronization doing what you configured.

ForeverAddonManager protects itself from being disabled through its own profiles. Its interface supports searching and filtering the installed-addon list, plus creating, duplicating, renaming and deleting profiles.

The minimap button opens the interface with a left-click and Settings with a right-click. You can drag the button to reposition it. German and English can be selected in Settings without a reload.

Know what a profile does not carry

An enabled-addon profile is a list of choices, not a copy of your entire interface. ForeverAddonManager does not copy or synchronize:

  • Another addon's saved settings or custom profiles.
  • Frame positions, layout imports or visual themes.
  • Keybindings.
  • Addon archives or updates.

For example, assigning the same enabled selection to two characters can make both load a UI suite. It does not establish that the suite will use the same layout, role profile or keybindings on both characters. Configure those inside the suite's own settings.

Use file updates and profiles together

A practical sequence is to finish file management first, then configure enabled selections:

  1. Select the live Forever installation in the desktop app.
  2. Install or update the supported releases and dependencies.
  3. Fully restart the game after new addon folders are added.
  4. Confirm the projects appear in the AddOns list.
  5. Build or apply the enabled-addon selection you need.
  6. Configure each addon's own settings separately.

Keep required dependencies with the projects that need them. An enabled selection is only useful if the files it selects are present and compatible. If a profile appears to apply but a project cannot load, inspect the project's dependencies and release before rebuilding every selection.

Check a profile on two characters

A simple comparison can confirm that the manager is solving the right problem. Save a profile with a recognizable selection of installed addons, apply it on the first character and inspect the resulting AddOns list. After any required reload, open one of the selected projects to confirm it is available.

Assign the same profile to a second character and check the enabled selection there. The expected result is the same selected set, subject to any exclusions you configured. It is not necessarily the same layout or appearance inside those projects.

If one addon uses a different visual profile on the second character, open that addon's own settings. Reapplying ForeverAddonManager's enabled selection will not copy the visual profile because that information is outside its documented scope.

Likewise, if a desktop app lists an update, applying an in-game selection does not download it. Return to the file manager for that step, then repeat the relevant feature check. This gives you a concrete way to separate a selection mismatch from a configuration difference or an old archive.

Preserve a working setup while changing tools

Changing your downloader does not require replacing every addon immediately. Verify the selected installation, scan what is present and check how the app identifies each project before accepting a broad update.

Likewise, a new profile manager does not require importing a complete old UI. Start with a selection you can understand and test one character before assigning it across your account.

After an update, verify the feature you actually use rather than relying only on an “up to date” label. A compatible archive, an enabled selection and a working in-game function are separate checks. Keeping them separate makes it much easier to identify whether a problem belongs to the desktop app, the profile selection or the addon itself.
